Man Up!

All men are invited to attend our Man Up Breakfast on Saturday February 4th. at 8:00 am sharp. The guest presenter will address important health issues men are facing. At our January meeting, Dr. Robert Evans spoke about the diseases that are literally killing people in South East Queens. He emphasized that we must take charge and as men we must “man up’ and become informed. Come enjoy a healthy breakfast and let us “grow well together in 2012″. Elder Keith Hutson and Rev. Dr. Edward Davis look forward to seeing you there. The Man Up Gatherings and Breakfasts will be held throughout 2012, on the every first Saturday of the month at 8:00am.

Revenge and Murder take Center Stage!

Theatre of the Living Word celebrates an incredible twenty-five years of community drama by presenting William Shakespeare’s classic revenge tragedy Hamlet.

Set in the medieval environs of Elsinore Castle, the Bard’s most famous play follows a clever, brooding young Prince (Steven Moore) as he seeks retribution for his father’s murder at the hands of his uncle Claudius (TLW Associate Director Pat Tomlinson). In the proceeding battle of the wits, Hamlet feigns madness, disrupts the royal court, and leaves a trail of betrayal and death.

Masterfully crafted by the author of Julius Caesar and The Tempest, the tension (and the body count) steadily mounts as a web of intrigue, lies, and secrets draws tighter, culminating in an all-out, edge-of-your-seat climactic duel.

Hamlet is directed by TLW’s Executive Director Marlon Campbell, who also takes an onstage turn as the Ghost of Hamlet’s father. Featured players include Mysteena Akilah Saunders, Fulton C. Hodges, Destimona Anokye, Nicholas Miles Newton, Quatis Tarkington, Rudolph Shaw, Damani Nyahuma, Jeffrey Reid, Kamara Nyahuma, and John Doherty, Jr.

Based at the L. Charles Gray Theatre of the Presbyterian Church of Saint Albans, Theatre of the Living Word began presenting plays to the community in the Spring of 1986. These performances are dedicated to the cherished memories of the troupe’s late Founder Millicent F. Jones, and her sister, Madeline Bazil, who served as Business Manager. Together with the Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Edward Davis, they worked tirelessly to bring the excitement of live performance to local audiences. As always, young people are also involved in all aspects of this production, both onstage and behind the scenes.

Performances of Hamlet are Friday December 2nd at 7:30PM, Saturday December 3rd at 7:30PM, and Sunday December 4th at 3pm. Tickets are $20. The Men’s Day speaker will Dr. Michael Joseph, Phd. He does research at Downstate Medical Center School of Public Health in the field of Epidemiology. He is an outstanding member of Bedford Central Presbyterian church, where Dr. Clive Neil is the Pastor. Dr. Joseph is a dynamic spirit filled speaker and motivator. The Presbyterian Men’s theme is “Presbyterian Men United, Empowered and Ready to Proclaim their Faith. Dr. Joseph’s message from Numbers 14:9 will challenge and inspire each of us to be courageous, as Caleb was, in proclaiming and carrying out God’s word by faith.

All Presbyterian men should invite men from their fraternity, communmity organization, and family & friends to hear this motivating message by Dr. Joseph. Sunday, October 9, 2011 is set aside to celebrate and honor our Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Edward Davis, Lay Pastor, Weldon B. Smith, and Reverend Beatrice Neil. This is indeed a very special day. Therefore, we invite all members and friends to come out and join in the Pastor’s Appreciation Day that has been planned. A continental breakfast will be served after the 8:00 am service and a luncheon will take place after the 11:00 am service. We would also like everyone to make a two (2) line statement to show appreciation to our ministerial leaders (One per family , please).
